Stephanie Meyer is not just any author. She is one of the best and highest-selling authors of all time. Stephanie came into the limelight for her writing work, with one of her projects selling millions of copies worldwide. The Twilight book series has also converted into a successful film series, earning the writer some good money.
Meyer was born on December 24, 1973, in Hartford, Connecticut where he grew up. With time, she became an author and film producer, careers which have made her wealthy and famous. The young reader attended Brigham Young University and she married at the age of 21 before she could graduate with an English degree in 1997.
Despite lacking prior experience as an author, the aspiring author conceived the idea of the Twilight series in a dream. She was influenced by the work of other writers like William Shakespeare and Jane Austen.
Career Endeavors
Soon after Meyer had a dream about Twilight, she started writing it. Initially, she received many rejections, until Little Brown and Company offered her a $750,000 three-book deal. This led to a four-book series, two spin-off novels, a novella, and a series.
Based on the dream about the Twilight series, the author wrote a draft, which became chapter 13 of the book. She went on to write from chapter 13 to the end of the book, and backfilled the first twelve chapters, without an ideal audience in mind, or intentions to publish it.
Meyer completed the novel in three months, and her sister congratulated her, convincing her to send it to the manuscript of literary agencies. She wrote fifteen letters, and five went unanswered. Nine were rejected and the last response from Jodi Reamer of Writers House gave a positive response.
Eight publishers competed for rights to public the book in a 2003 auction. By November, Meyer signed a$750, 000 three-book deal with Little, Brown Company. Twilight was published in 2005 and 75, 000 copies were printed. Within a month of its release, it reached number 5 on The New York Times Best Seller list or Children’s Chapter Books. The book reached number 1 one the list later and was named Best Book of the Year by Publisher Weekly.
Despite the book receiving success, it became one of the most challenged books of 2009 for being sexually explicit, religious views, and age-inappropriate. As a result, some schools and libraries were asked to remove the books from the shelves.
After the success of Twilight, Meyer went on to write and publish other novels, which did very well, ranking on New York’s Best-Selling list. Meyer was the best-selling author of 2008 and the first author to have books in all four of the selling spots.
