Understanding Solar Eclipses: Types, Safety, and What Time is the Solar Eclipse 2024?

A solar eclipse happens when the sun, the moon, and the Earth are in a straight line, either in the form of a line or partially. Based on the type of alignment the two make, eclipses give a thrilling and distinct look at the sun or the moon.

A solar eclipse is a phenomenon in which the moon gets directly between the sun and the earth, and thus the sun’s light is either fully or partially blocked, and some parts of the planet are in darkness. This only occurs rarely because the Moon does not orbit in the same plane as the Sun and the Earth do. The period they are lined up is called eclipse season, which occurs twice in one year.

Where observers do not have the opportunity to witness a total solar eclipse, they should always use eclipse glasses or an alternative safe solar viewing method such as a pinhole projector to view the sun. This was true in the case of a partial or annular eclipse or before or after the totality of a total solar eclipse.

Total Solar Eclipse

The fact that a total eclipse occurs when the moon is positioned directly between the sun and the earth causes the entire face of the sun to be hidden. A total eclipse occurs to those who are at the center of the moon’s shadow when it is on the Earth. They will become obscured in darkened skies as if it is either early morning or evening. When a total solar eclipse occurs, that is if the moon is passing in front of the sun so that it blots that off, the people in the area can get to see the sun’s corona or outer atmosphere. For only a brief eclipse times during totality that has passed a few minutes previous to or following ‘peak’ totality, those who are observing a total solar eclipse are permitted to briefly remove their eclipse glasses (which are not at all the same thing as sunglasses). April 8, 2024, will be the next total solar eclipse that will occur in the territory of the USA.

Annular Solar Eclipse

An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves in front of the Sun and the Earth, but when it is at the apogee, it is at the furthest point from the Earth. Due to the distance between the moon and the Earth, the moon appears to be small in size and does not obscure the sun. This makes the moon appear as a black disk on top of a larger, brighter disk, and thus one will be able to see what seems like a halo around the moon. The next annular eclipse sighting in the U.S. will occur on October 14, 2023.

Partial Solar Eclipse

A partial solar eclipse is an eclipse where the moon crosses the Sun and Earth but the three planets are not aligned. Thus, only a part of the sun will seem to be ‘occluded,’ and it will look like a crescent moon. A total or annular solar eclipse is observed when the moon’s inner corona obscures the sun completely while people outside the moon’s inner shadow observe a partial solar eclipse.

Hybrid Solar Eclipse

Because Earth’s surface is curved, sometimes an eclipse can shift between annular and total as the moon’s shadow moves across the globe. This is called a hybrid solar eclipse.

What time is the solar eclipse 2024?

What time is the solar eclipse 2024? The total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024, will transverse the USA starting from Texas to Maine, and this will make it easy for millions of people to have a view of this great sight. The time at which the solar eclipse 2024 is going to take place may be deferred as the time differs from one location to the other. However, as mentioned earlier, the total eclipse will start around 3:17 PM EDT or 7:17 PM UT, and the phase of totality will be a brief few minutes at the maximum depending upon the exact geographical location with the totality path of the eclipse.

People who will not even be able to experience a partial phase of the solar eclipse will also be advised to follow these precautions and watch the sun with the help of solar viewing glasses or pinhole projectors. I would like to remind you to pay attention to such an event and get ready for it in advance! In case you may be wondering what time is the solar eclipse 2024 it is important to look at your local time as it may vary slightly.
