Career
Battier started playing during college and was the best defender on the court. He joined Duke College and in 1999 and 2001, he led the Duke Blue Devils’ men’s basketball to two final fours. He was the first basketball player to win the Naismith prep player of the year in 1997 and Naismith college player of the year. In 2001, he graduated with a degree in religion then joined the NBA draft.
In 2001, he received national players of the year with honors. He was selected in 2001 NBA draft by Vancouver Grizzlies and came in sixth position. He made a living defending shooting guard, power forward and small forward position.
Grizzlies traded him to the Houston rockets for Stromile Swift and Rudy Gay in 2006 NBA draft. He is well known for his skill in studying the opposing team and player he is guarding. While playing in the 2006 FIBA World Championship he won a bronze medal for the US national team. In his game against Milwaukee Bucks, he scored 20 points but lost to Trevor Ariza as he suffered a knee injury.
In 2011 he was traded back to Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Hasheem Thabeet and DeMarre Carrol. The heat lost to the Chicago Bulls in 2013.

Personal Life
Battier was born in September 9th 1978 in Birmingham, Michigan. He went to Detroit Country Day school and was already 6’4 ft. He had interracial parents with a black father and a white mother. He graduated high school as the best student with 3.9 grade in his senior year.
In 2004, Battier married Heidi Ufer. The duo welcomed their son Zeke Edward in 2008 and a daughter Eloise in 2011.
